Not surprisingly, Hood River, Oregon, shares its name with the nearby river. A port city on the Columbia River, Hood River’s economy is supported by a mix of agriculture, tourism, sports recreation and, more recently, high-tech industries.
It was the put on the sports recreation map when people discovered that it was an ideal place for windsurfing—so good in fact, that Hood River is also known as the Windsurfing Capital of the World. Those more interested in what cultural offerings the city has will be pleased to learn that Hood River has a number of museums and more than two dozen historic sites to explore in the surrounding area. The Hood River Valley Blossom Festival, Hood River Hops Festival and the Hood River Valley Harvest Fest are all events that take place each year.

HOTELS & MOTELS IN HOOD RIVER
Hood River is a relatively small city but with the large influx of tourists, both in the summer and winter months, guests to the area won’t have any issues finding a hotel or motel that suits their needs and budget.
Coming into the city, heading east on Highway 84, visitors will come across the Columbia Gorge Hotel. This longtime hotel’s rooms are furnished in an art deco style and come with a host of amenities: flat screen TV, cable, free wireless Internet, air conditioning and plush robes. An on-site spa with a list of soothing treatments, well-kept grounds and a restaurant, are enough to keep all travelers in the hotel instead of exploring the city!
Entering the city along Cascade Avenue, visitors will find a few recognizable, mid-range chain hotels with standard amenities as well as a selection of smaller motels. Just before Cascade Avenue turns into Oak Street, visitors will find the Riverview Lodge, which offers 20 comfortable units to those spending time in Hood River. Larger suites with full kitchens are great for those bringing the kids. The indoor heated pool is the perfect place to let the kids expend extra energy while the adults relax in the nearby Jacuzzi.
Farther down on Oak Street is the aptly named Oak Street Hotel. This 1909 home has been renovated into a nine-room hotel in the historic part of downtown Hood River. Cozy and inviting rooms, a continental breakfast complete with fresh French pastries and a big sunny veranda are sure to be relaxing after exploring the best part of the day.
About five blocks east of the Oak Street hotel is the Hood River Hotel. Hood River's oldest hotel, this property has a large variety of rooms and suites as well as enough amenities to satisfy even the pickiest of travelers.
